Search KB, Newsgroups & GP Blogosphere – Make it a Habit

Today morning, I downloaded Dynamics GP Downloads file from Mark’s Skydrive account (Thanks Mark, for that). And I was quite surprised to see the CapsLock Reminder VBA post by Patrick Roth, dated way back in 2009. And I did write my own code in early March this year, completely not aware of Patrick’s.

I would have certainly saved 1 hour, had I checked the KB, Newgroups & Blogs (need not be in the same order).

David & Mariano often insists on this point, and I would also like to insist more on that in the wake of my own experience(s).

It’s nice to write our own code and get some kind of “accomplished” satisfaction, but if you are running out of time and need something at the earliest, the best place without doubt is our GP Blogosphere.

A Small Tip: Having these Important Sites as Favorites in our Browser(s) is not a bad idea at all.

GP Blogs for Useful SQL Views

We are now having three blogs helping us out in SQL Views for varied needs.

1. Victoria Yudin’s Blog
2. Mark Polino’s Blog
3. Ron’s Blog – Real Life Dynamics User

To my best knowledge, the above are the active blog till now and continue to enrich us with more SQLs.

Do follow these blogs without fail.

Upgrading 150+ Companies – Now that’s A REAL UPGRADE

Mariano quotes us from Randal Mayer on How to Upgrade 150+ GP Companies.

I have never even imagined more than 15-20 companies, and this advise IS needed for all of us.

And this post also answers a major question: Is Dynamics GP really capable of handling loads and transactions? Now a customer having 150+ companies in Dynamics GP 9.0. And we have already got Dynamics GP 2010 with SQL Server 2008 R2.

That’s a lesson to all who doubt GP’s capability.

New Look & Feel to my Blog

After long time sticking to a more conventional blog look & feel, I have now changed it to look attractive and interesting.

While the basic components are still the same, somethings are either removed or added. I would like to get the feedback from all of my Blog Readers, whether it’s good or bad or need improvement.

Do comment on the new design.

Some Philosophy for Today

When going gets tough, let there be Tougher Belief & Toughest Confidence!

Life’s not always a Vanilla Implementation. It does require some complex customization(s). Depends on how efficiently we understand Life’s requirement and customize it.

Alright, enough. Let me get back to work.

ERP Implementation Strategies – Houston Neal

Those who are currently doing or planning implementation(s), a must read article by Houston Neal of Manufacturing Software Advise.

Houston walks us thru’ 3 kinds of ERP Implementation:

1. Big Bang
2. Phase Out
3. Parallel Adoption

I voted for 2nd method, which is Phase Out, due to various practical reasons.

Check out his article, ERP Implementation Strategies – A Guide to ERP Implementation Methodology.

And people, don’t forget to vote your kinda strategy. There is a poll waiting for you.

Very good article, Houston. Precise concepts being told in simple language.

MS Excel VLOOKUP – Learned it Finally

Don’t be harsh on me of being so ignorant. But this concept is one thing which I never learned it quite right.

One of my colleagues, Nasir, used to teach me this wonderful VLOOKUP concept and I always got it wrong.

Today I decided to get it right once for all. Stumbled across this video, Brainstorm’s VLOOKUP Tutorial Video, which is available directly from MS Excel Help Links.

This is exactly what Nasir also explained me, but somehow I missed something in this entire process.

Thanks for his patience and thanks to this video. I thought I would create a pointer to this Easy to Understand Video, for those out there who are struggling (like me till today) to understand this concept.
