OFF TOPIC: Why Windows Close Button Is On The Right Corner?

That’s pretty interesting stuff out there in The Old New Thing blog.

I got to read about why the close button of Windows is on the right corner?. In addition to the article, you got to read the comments which are as interesting (and funny, if I may say) as the article itself.

The idea behind the right corner placement is Fitt’s Law.

Read it on the source blog. I bet, it’s worth.

13 Common ERP Mistakes You Should Avoid

Over at ERP Software Blog, MIBAR.net has shared an article from ITWorld.com about 13 Common ERP Mistakes that we should avoid.

It’s indeed a comprehensive list.

Below are the points, which are elaborated in that article:

  1. Poor Planning
  2. Improper ERP Vendors Vetting
  3. Not understanding / using Key Features
  4. Underestimating Time & Resources Required
  5. Not having right people on team from the start
  6. Not setting priorities
  7. Not investing in training & change management
  8. Underestimating the importance of accurate data
  9. Taking the kitchen sink approach
  10. Not decommissioning legacy applications
  11. Not having an active load testing environment
  12. Ignoring Third-Party support alternatives
  13. Not having a maintenance strategy

And I would like to add one further mistake:

  • Keep on changing requirements in the middle of actual implementation
OR
  • Implementation without a concrete Sign-Off document

I believe the above list pretty much completes the most common mistakes that we might make in an ERP implementation.

Performance Issue with Received/Not Invoiced Report in POP

Angela Ebensteiner (Technical Lead, Microsoft Dynamics) share a fix on Microsoft Dynamics GP Support blog for the performance issue with Received Not Invoiced report in Purchase Order Processing (POP).

To brief you here on why this performance issue occur, it’s because of huge pile of PO records staying on POP open tables, even after they are closed. When you run the report, it goes through each and every record on POP open table, due to which you got to wait for some time till query processing finishes.

Fix is to remove completed POs from open tables to history, which we have a standard utility available in GP.

Dynamic Future – Vote: Resize the Left Pane on Smartlist

Mark highlights the Smartlist Left Pane curse (what else do you say if you see half of your screen is occupied by the Smartlist Favorites tree view and only half being allotted for results?) and a suggestion that was made by Sivakumar V.

The Connect suggestion post can be seen here: GP Smartlist Window Splitter to be made resizable.

But when I see this suggestion, it says Resolved:

So that means, is it going to be available on next release? Or on GP2013?

Nevertheless, visit the portal and vote for it.

The Consumerization of ERP Software – Software Advice

Derek Singleton, at Software Advice, got to have had a short meeting with Christian Pedersen, Microsoft’s General Manager of Enterprise Applications and Services on the topic of how IT consumerization affects Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software in general and what Microsoft’s plans are on it’s own line of products, that is Microsoft Dynamics (GP, AX, NAV, SL & CRM).

Quite an interesting topic, I would say. It’s about the need to change/enhance the ERP experience that would work on par with what we have for our normal day-to-day technological consumption, such as Smartphones, Tablets, etc. It’s all about productivity without affecting a user’s interest and enthusiasm.

Read the article here to learn more: The Consumerization of ERP Software. And those who would like to see the video straightaway, please do so from here:
