This is a very good RW function which is available from GP 2010. More information in David’s Blog: Announcing Report Writer Function RW_ConvertToWordsAndNumbersParse.
This means, an amount of any length can be converted to Words and displayed on a RW report. And this also supports MC. That’s another great news.

Installation of Crystal Reports does not really have any issues on a 64 Bit machine.
But once installation is over and you launch the Crystal Reports, you would be surprised to see Crystal Reports Application crashing.
The reasons are two:
1. Crystal Reports Redistribution x64 must be installed on 64 Bit machines.
2. DEP (Data Execution Prevention) on that machine must either be set to “Essential Programs and Services” alone, or create an Exception for Crystal Reports EXE. This will ensure that OS does not validate Crystal Reports and throw an exception error, which leads to crashing.

In spite of having more critical deliverables for today, I still wanted to post this article, because of it’s importance.
This particular issue is no less than an acute pain. And I mean it.
In SQL Server Management Studio, from versions 2005 till 2008, there is an option called “Auto Recover” which triggers a process that save whatever we are writing in the Query Editor… every 5 to 10 mins. And that’s real pain for us, especially if we are working on remote or thru’ internet.
Sometimes, the system gets hung for so long that you would sit in front and wait till it “recovers” from the “recovery” itself.
BUT, there IS a solution which is unsupported by Microsoft SQL Server team, but harmless and effective. There is a registry entry called “AutoRecover Enabled“, which by default is set to 1. We have to change it to 0. This will not trigger that painful process anymore.
Do a find in Registry Editor for the above option, and you would be able to see that.

After long time sticking to a more conventional blog look & feel, I have now changed it to look attractive and interesting.
While the basic components are still the same, somethings are either removed or added. I would like to get the feedback from all of my Blog Readers, whether it’s good or bad or need improvement.

There is a huge backlog in my blogging off late, due to a very hectic implementation schedule (will be sharing my experience with you all after some time).
But first’s first: Mark Polino has finally broken into the arena of great and most sought after authors.
His book, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 Cookbook, based on his very famous 50 Tips in 50 Minutes, is going to be a gem for all of us.
What’s different in this book from others? The most important difference is Mark’s ability to hook the readers to the topic and topics itself being very Real-Time.
I believe people would have certainly got their copy (print / ecopy). And I am getting one too coming week.
Congrats Mark, for your first book and I wish more from you for our community.

I learned it only today, that too after 2 hours of thinking. This probably is a readily available answer on Internet or Forums or Manuals, but it never struck my mind to check all those sources.
Issue: I wrote a SQL query and wanted to process the records in a specific sort order. Let’s say for instance, my query is:
SELECT ITEMNMBR, DOCTYPE, DOCDATE, TRXQTY
FROM IV30300
ORDER BY ITEMNMBR, DOCTYPE, DOCDATE DESC
Please note that I have used DESC for my sorting order. Basically I wanted to sort the records based on:
1. Item Number (to be in Ascending Order)
2. Document Type (to be in Descending Order)
3. Document Date (to be in Descending Order)
The above query for my requirement, always returned records in a wrong sort order. The Sort Order was like this:
1. Item Number (Ascending Order) – which is Correct
2. Document Type (Ascending Order) – which is Wrong
3. Document Date (Descending Order) – which is Correct
The reason I learned for this, is a trivial SQL concept, which I never knew till today.
Let’s revisit my query, which is now corrected one:
SELECT ITEMNMBR, DOCTYPE, DOCDATE, TRXQTY
FROM IV30300
ORDER BY ITEMNMBR, DOCTYPE DESC, DOCDATE DESC
The above, corrected, query shows one more DESC added to column DOCTYPE. That means, if we want to sort records in Descending Order based on more than one column, we must specify DESC on each relevant column. Otherwise, it will take only the last column.
Till now, I was under the impression that specifying DESC in the last (once) is more than enough.
I thought I would share this with people, in case anyone else overlooked this simple concept, like me.

This post is an update to my previous article, CapsLock Reminder for GP Login.
In my previous article, I had shared a package which would remind you of Caps Lock being switched on.
This warning will be shown as soon as you either launch GP or try to change the User after your first login.
I thought I would tweak it so that it would show this warning when you enter Password Field. And that makes more sense than showing it right after opening the GP Login form.
